The dances of North East India can be classified as the dances
in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura. The
ancient musical forms of the valley dwellers are closely
connected to the worship of Vishnu which are expressed in the
Manipuri Dance. The Manipuri dance is known for its style and
delicacy. The main dances of Mizoram are Cheraw, Khuallam,
Chheih Hla (Chheih lam) and Sawlakia. The Naga tribes are fond
of dances. The dances are named after the manner in which
hands and feet are executed to resemble the movements of a
bird or an insect or an animal like Nruirolians or cock dance,
Gethinglim or cricket dance, Temangnetin or the fly dance and
Hetateulee or the bear dance. All these dances are performed
with the songs and music. The main folk dances of Tripura are
Hozagiri dance of Reangs, Garia, Jhum, Maimita, Masak Sumani
and Lebang boomani dances of Tripuris, Bizu dance of Chakma
community, Cheraw and Welcome dances of Lusais, Hai-Hak dance
of Malsums, Wangala dance of Garo, Sangraiaka, Chimithang,
Padisha and abhangma dances of Mog, Garia dances of Kalai and
Jamatia, Gajan, Dhamail, Sari and Rabindra dances of Bengalis
and Basanta Rash and Pung chalam dances of Manipuris. Some of
the popular folk dances of Arunachal Pradesh are Aji Lamu,
Roppi, Hiirii Khaniing, Popir, Pasi Kongki, Chalo, Ponung,
